Closures of flats to shellfish harvesting due to bacterial contamination from malfunctioning septic tanks is an on-going coastal problem that directly impacts the livelihood of professional clam diggers as well as recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The economic impact of these closures extends to encompass entire coastal communities and the state.

The Kennebec Estuary Clam Flat Partners,(KECFP) a working group focusing on finding solutions to clam flat closures and restoration, has received funding from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund to provide a free workshop- “Septic Systems: The Growing Problem and Solutions to Maine’s Greatest Coastal Threat”. The workshop will be held on August 6th at the Bath Municipal Auditorium, at 55 Front Street in Bath, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Click here to see press release about the workshop details or for the workshop agenda, click here.

Bath City Hall is located at 55 Front Street.  Directly across from the intersection of Center Street with Front Street.   Directions from your location can be obtained through maps.google.com and looking up Bath City Hall, 55 Front Street, Bath, Maine. The meeting will be in the auditorium.  Parking can be a problem.  The best bet is probably to park along the waterfront on Commercial Street, in back of the City Hall.
